Would your child benefit from some targeted learning in Math or English? Our Winter Workshop Series offers great teacher-directed learning in short 8-12 week blocks.
Reading Winter Workshops
- Learn to Read Part 1A/B (12 weeks each) – This small group interactive workshop begins the journey to reading with the introduction of Letter/Sound Associations; Uppercase/Lowercase Letter Formation; and recognizing sounds at both the beginning and ending of words. Developed using the science of reading approach, students are taught letter recognition and sound using a systematic, fun and interactive curriculum. Each unit also includes printable worksheets that parents can download to reinforce letter formation and sound association. Groups are limited to four students to ensure a high level of engagement between the teacher and students. Weekly online practice is assigned to help students to master each concept.
- Students attend class twice per week for 45 minutes each class. Our Part A workshops will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12:30pm and 1:30pm (EDT) starting Tuesday, January 21st. Students may choose either 12:30pm or 1:30pm for your regular schedule, not both.
Math Winter Workshops
- Fantastic Fractions Part 1 and Part 2 (8 weeks each) – Fractions are a vital part of math understanding and they can be fun!. Fractions introduce key concepts that help students to understand and solve problems in Geometry, Data Management, Probability, Rates and Ratios just to name a few. They set the stage for more advanced mathematics at the high-school level. They are students’ first introduction to abstract math and incorporate many of the key math concepts that students need for success in algebra. This workshop will be teacher-led, focusing on helping students to find fractions both easy and fun to work with. This two-part workshop will teach both calculations and applications of fractions in broader areas of math and the real world.
- Students will attend one 90-minute session each week. This course will be offered on Wednesday and Thursday evenings at 6:15pm starting Wednesday, January 23rd. Attendance will be limited to 8 students. Students must be in grade 6 or above. Students may choose only Wednesday or Thursday evening, not both.
Please note that students require a laptop with both audio(Headsets preferred) and a camera to attend our workshops. Course activities will not work on an Ipad, phone or tablet.
